GoSun's Solar Kitchen: Review and Breakdown

GoSun's Solar Kitchen: Review and Breakdown

What is the Solar Kitchen?

GoSun’s Solar Kitchen is the ultimate off-grid cooking solution. It lets you cook and refrigerate your food, and even charge all your USB-powered electric devices, with absolutely no electrical outlets needed. Cook your food with the GoSun Fusion—a solar cooker with a battery bank that makes food day or night—and refrigerate it with the GoSun Chill, an electric cooler that needs no ice. You can power both the Chill and the Fusion (and keep your devices charged) with the SolarTable 60, a table covered with solar panels.

Portability

No other kitchen is as portable as GoSun’s Solar Kitchen. All three of its main appliances either have wheels or can attach to something that does. The GoSun Chill is arguable the only fridge designed to stay on the go. It has a built-in pull-out handle and built-in wheels. The SolarTable 60 also folds up easily, attaching to the handles of the Chill like a roller bag. To complete the arrangement, the Fusion can be bungeed onto the Chill with a built-in bungee bar. The Solar Kitchen is light and agile enough for one person to fold it up and roll it anywhere.

That’s because each part of the Solar Kitchen is much lighter than its grid-connected counterpart. The GoSun Fusion needs no charcoal or propane. Remember the Chill needs no ice. All those pounds add up, making perhaps the first-ever oven/fridge combo that travels easily.

Cooking at Night

Solar cookers are great, but they depend on solar power, and the obvious problem with solar power is that the Sun doesn’t shine at night. The GoSun Fusion is the only solar cooker to solve this problem thanks to its hybrid solar/electric technology. Use the Sun during the day, and at night it runs off its 12 volt battery. that provides 150 Watts at 12 volts. A perfect way to power your GoSun Fusion is with the optional, lithium-ion battery Powerbank Plus. The two-pound Powerbank allows for up to one hour of off-grid cooking power.

Make Ice

The Chill utilizes energy from the Sun to keep drinks and food cold or frozen, eliminating the need for ice. Say goodbye to soggy sandwiches or lugging around a heavy cooler with extra bags of ice to keep your food or drinks cold. The Chill combines the technology of brushless compressor motors with lithium ion batteries. Similar in size to a standard cooler, the Chill is a 40-liter cooler that fits 40% more food and drink since there’s no ice using the valuable space inside.

Charge Devices

In addition to running off the included lithium Powerbank Plus, every GoSun Chill comes with integrated components that enable it to be run from typical household AC power, mobile 12 Volt sources or optional solar panel charging. The detachable 144wh Powerbank can also power laptops, portable accessories and cellphones (over 10 full charges) making it handy where you need the juice.

Live Off-Grid

Living off-grid has many advantages. You are fully independent and have no need of remote infrastructure, the power grid, or municipal plumbing. That means you can live in a cabin in the mountains, on a beach, or on a boat in the middle of the ocean. But what about appliances for your off-grid home? What about cookers, coolers, light sources, and chargers for your electrical appliances? After all, Nobody wants to live like a rustic hermit. This is why the GoSun team has designed the solar kitchen for cooking, cooling, and charging. It’s the complete package so that each product integrates seamlessly with another.

Cooking Duration

The Fusion can cook 145 oz of food at once (over 9 pounds!) and easily feeds 4-6 people. With the Fusion’s 101 oz cooking tray, you can make a meal five times an hour.

The Chill

The Chill is the next step in cooler evolution. It keeps all your food and drinks cold or frozen with no need for ice. Eliminating the need for ice alone increases the capacity of the Chill over normal coolers by 30-50 percent. In terms of beer storage, that’s an increase of at least 12 bottles over an ice cooler of the same size. The compressor used is DC Brushless (which runs on 12 pr 24 volts) and draws 35-45 W. Its 150 watt-hour solar-powere lithium battery pack can also power laptops, cell phones, and many other portable accessories.

The Fusion

The GoSun Fusion is the world's first solar oven that can also cook without the Sun. It reaches temperatures up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit, doing all and more than a conventional oven can do. With a power output of 200W- 225W under full sun, it also works under clouds or at night thanks to its backup battery.

SolarTable

Designed to charge the PowerBank+, the SolarTable 60 is GoSun’s fastest, most powerful solar charger. Made of aluminum, stainless steel, and tempered glass, the SolarTable is lightweight (only 18.5 pounds) yet powerful, putting out 60 Watts. With its 5.5 x21. mea coaxial connector, you can hook up your Chill, Fusion, or Powerbank.

Powerbank Plus

The Powerbank Plus unleashes the freedom of portable power. It can charge three devices at once and has four USB ports and a DC carport (cigarette lighter) as well. Capable of charging laptops, tablets, cameras, phones, lights, and other devices, all you have to do is plug in the Powerbank. Top it off with electricity from the SolarTable. Or use it to power the Chill or Fusion.

Price

A kitchen is the most expensive part of a house, and you’re probably guessing that this off-grid set will at least match the cost of a full remodel. What do you think? Five thousand dollars? Ten thousand dollars? That’s the figure that most threw out when we asked them to estimate our off-grid kitchen set. The good news is that the total price is as low as the package is versatile. You can get the complete solar kitchen for only $1,399. A great value for a state-of-the art kitchen that cooks better, cools better, and washes better than any other kitchen yet works with no electricity whatsoever.

Warranty
