Camping is great, but in the cold of the morning, you need some some strong coffee to get you going. The good news is that you have plenty of options on making coffee, whether you're on a mountain far from civilization or in a four-bedroom RV with full water and gas hookups.
In this article we mention simple ways of making coffee while camping (which can work just fine in a pinch) but also much better ways that require minimal space but still produce a cup of joe that equals, if not surpasses, anything you can make at home.
Simple Ways of Making Coffee While Camping
There are brute-force methods to making coffee while camping, of course. There's making it the cowboy way. This just involves a kettle that can be placed over a campfire, or any heating source.
Once it's boiling, remove the kettle from the heat source and let it cool, about 30 seconds. Then stir in two tablespoons of coffee grounds per serving. Let the coffee grounds brew for two minutes, stir again, then give it two more minutes of brewing.
When the grounds settle to the bottom, slowly pour the coffee into your mug to avoid getting residue on the bottom (unless you like your coffee Turkish style).
A slightly more sophisticated way of making coffee is to get a percolator. This is a device that pushes heated water through a tube and sprinkles over your coffee grounds, then trickles down the kettle. It's sort of a bare-bones version of an automatic coffee pot. The cycle keeps going until the water turns into freshly brewed coffee.
Brewing with a percolator requires opening the lid and removing the tube and basket insert. You can use a round paper filter in your percolator basket to keep most of the grounds out of the coffee Then put the tube and basket assembly back inside the kettle and put the lid on top. Set your percolator on your heating element and give it about 8-10 minutes to make your coffee.
Better Ways of Making Coffee While Camping
These two methods work just fine, but they have serious limitations. The biggest problem with the aforementioned ways of coffee while camping is portability; a coffee maker is never enough by itself. You need to heat water, necessitating a portable stove or iron pot to put on the fire.
There's a better way. And GoSun, which has invented everything from incredible solar stoves to off-grid fridges to entire solar kitchens -- has cracked the code. Introducing the GoSun Brew, an all-in-one coffee pot that combines a 130-Watt heater, integrated French Press, drink-thru opening and leak-proof lid, all in one cup. This doubled insulated mug will keep your coffee hot for hours,
Power to Make Coffee in the Palm of Your Hand
The GoSun Brew is the best way to make coffee while camping. Boiling water on a stove and using instant coffee doesn't cut it because it requires messy gas canisters and a heavy stove. Plus -- let's be honest -- instant coffee just doesn't taste that good.

Here are other great things about the GoSun Brew:
- Holds 12oz, plenty to last all morning
- Fits in car cup holder within easy reach of your 12V outlet
- Keeps drinks hot for hours
- Easy to clean stainless steel Mug is safe to hand was
- BPA free Lid is safe in dishwasher.
No Fear of Fires
Making coffee or tea while traveling or camping, or during a power outage, is nearly impossible without burning something. This has gotten trickier in recent years because fire bans are increasing in places where fire threats are elevated. Fire is dangerous and highly destructive. GoSun Brew enables you to get a good cup of hot coffee, no matter what!
Brew Does More Than Coffee
Making coffee is critical, but narrow thinking only about the world's highest traded commodity is limiting. GoSun Brew can do so much more:
- Reheat beverages and maintain your preferred temperature, allowing you to do a controlled warm-up for everything from baby formula to dipping sauce
- Brew tea or hot cocoa
- Make instant meals that only need water (oatmeal, ramen, etc.)
- Pasteurize water
